Introducing the F-150 Lightning Switchgear, an electrifying vehicle with 37-inch tires by Ford Performance. This high-performance on- and off-road demonstrator, developed in collaboration with RTR Vehicles, is inspired by the 2016 F-150 RTR Ultimate Fun-Haver project. Featuring custom exterior carbon bodywork with a Ford Performance 2024 livery, Switchgear is equipped with off-road enhancements to explore uncharted territories.
As part of Ford’s Performance Demonstrator program, alongside iconic vehicles like SuperVan 4.0, Mustang Mach-E 1400, and more, Switchgear showcases the potential of electric vehicles. Acting as a testbed, it pushes the boundaries of electric trucks, offering increased track width for off-road stability, enhanced ground clearance, and extended suspension travel.
To tackle rough terrain, Switchgear employs FOX 3-inch diameter internal bypass shock absorbers, unique front and rear bumpers, custom independent double-wishbone suspension at the front, and multilink independent suspension at the rear. Carbon composite components, steel rock rails, and a front skid plate ensure durability in challenging off-road conditions.
The truck sports NITTO Ridge Grappler 37×12.5R18 tires and a distinctive chase rack with two spare wheels/tires. Catch the F-150 Lightning Switchgear in action at the King of the Hammers off-road racing event starting Jan. 25 in Johnson Valley, California.
