Tires

The Tires

Your tires are the most important item on your vehicle and Raceway Ford wants to make sure you understand the importance of keeping your tires in good shape to be able to carry your most important cargo, your family. The Benefits of Correct Air Pressure

Experts agree that keeping the correct air pressure in your tires is as important as giving your engine a tune-up. In fact, the economic benefits may be even greater. With the right amount of air pressure, your tires wear longer, save fuel, enhance handling, and prevent accidents. Failure to maintain the correct air pressure can result in poor

Failure to maintain the correct air pressure can result in poor gas mileage, reduce tire life, affect vehicle handling, and cause vehicle overloading. If you consider these factors, then the need to routinely check your tire pressure is even clearer

Check Air Pressure Routinely

Because tires do so much without appearing to need attention, it's easy to forget about them. However, tires do lose pressure each day, through the process of permeation. In cool weather, a tire will typically lose one or two pounds of air per month. In warm weather, it's common for tires to lose air at an even higher rate. Tires are also often subjected to flexing and impacts that can diminish air pressure as well. So it's important to realize that refilling your tires is as important as refilling your gas tank. In fact, associating the need to refill your tires with the need for refilling your fuel supply can also be a useful reminder. Check the air pressure in your tires every other time you stop to fill up at the gas station. That interval will allow you to check your tire pressure consistently enough to maintain recommended air pressure. Another good time to check air pressure is when the tires are rotated. Many vehicles have different tire pressures on the front and rear axle, so remember to have this adjustment made. Also remember to have the pressure in your spare tire checked. The space-saver type spare requires a much higher air pressure level than other tires, and is virtually useless (due to overloading) at lower air pressure levels.

Where To Find Air Pressure Information

The correct air pressure may be found in the vehicle owner's manual or on the tire placard (attached to the vehicle door edge, doorpost, glove box door or fuel door). The placard tells you the maximum vehicle load, the cold tire pressures and the tire size recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. If you have trouble visit Raceway Ford and we will check them for you.

Other Factors Change Air Pressure

In addition to routine air checks, other circumstances necessitate a visit to the air pump. Seasonal changes or altitude changes create a rise or drop in air pressure (for every 10 degrees change in temperature, tire air pressure changes 1 psi). Perhaps the most overlooked factor is vehicle loading for trucks and RVs. Since these vehicles can be configured and loaded in many ways, actual tire loads should be used to determine the proper inflation pressure. This is best determined by weighing the vehicle. Keep in mind that vehicle loading can change from trip to trip.

Sometimes a small nail, screw or other object will puncture a tire and then act as an inefficient plug. Air pressure drops slowly over a matter of hours or days, undetected by the driver. Your best defense in this circumstance is to be alert to the symptoms of this. Be aware of any pulling or vibration that seems unnatural. Listen for any ticking sounds, which will be especially audible at slow, parking lot speeds.

Remanufactured Unloaded Calipers (without pads)

If you detect this, get off the road and inspect the tires on the side of your vehicle where the pull, vibration or unusual sound is occurring. A bulging sidewall and/or excessively hot tire indicates a slow leak. Put on your spare tire and have your tire dealer repair the punctured unit. Ask the repair technician if any sidewall damage has occurred (a powdery residue inside the tire indicates this condition). If sidewall damage has occurred, you will need to have the tire replaced.

Raceway Ford is one of the largest tire retailers in the Inland Empire and continues to maintain a large tire inventory to have the right tires in stock for your vehicle.

Raceway Ford will always meet or beat any competitor's price on tires. Just bring in a printed quote on tires that we sell and we will match their price or beat it if possible.

Please contact us to get a quote today.

Raptor, GT350R and the Ford GT… all revealed at the Detroit Auto Show!

The annual Detroit Auto Show, or as it is now know around the world The North American International Auto Show, never fails to open the year with automotive excitement and this year the spot light is shinning on the Blue Oval. Over the last week the floor plan for the show was revealed and in the Ford display area were designated spots for display vehicles codenamed ‘Hummingbird’ and ‘Phoenix’ which fueled the rumor mill to full output! We will get to what those had to reveal in a moment, first we want to get you the details as we know them for the third reveal of the first day of the show; the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor!

Building on the reputation of the most powerful and capable four wheel drive pickup ever factory produced, the next generation Raptor takes serious off- roading to the next level entirely! In addition to the all aluminum construction of the new truck making it lighter than the awesome truck it replaces the 2017 Raptor will get its power from a twin turbo 3.5L EcoBoost that will develop more horsepower and torque than the monster 6.2L in the 2014 if you can believe it! Power will reach the wheels through an all new 10-Speed automatic transmission and Raptor pilots will have SIX driving modes to ensure that power is used to its fullest! New driving modes include; Normal (everyday stuff), Street (spirited hi-performance driving), Weather (for inclement conditions), Mud/Sand (for typical off road stuff), Baja (when a high speed desert run is needed) and Rock (for the crawling opportunities)! Larger Fox Racing Shox with greater travel, tuned high flow dual exhaust and a bigger stronger transfer case are just a few more dream items on the massive list of improvements for this new beast!

Now, for the mystery of the Hummingbird…. This morning the cover was pulled off of the most powerful, track-ready Mustang ever built by Ford, the 2016 Mustang GT350R. And yes, the R stands for Ridiculously Awesome! From the all new and all amazing “19 CARBON FIBER wheels at each corner to the (now lower) roof this Pony is pure adrenaline top to bottom! Reworking the car for aerodynamic improvement the put the headlights at an inch lower than a stock Mustang and that’s not all! Out back there is a huge rear spoiler, also carbon fiber, which will help keep the hind quarters firmly land locked and help keep those massive tires gripping the tarmac! Maintaining traction was at the fore front of the Ford Performance Team because they knew it would be near impossible to harness the ponies that will be produced by the all new, first ever for Ford, flat plane crankshaft 5.2L V8 under the hood! Rumors have been flying and no firm numbers are available yet however its very safe to say that horsepower will be well above 500 and torque will be simply monstrous! At every point the eye focuses there is pure performance. On the outside there is a new rear diffuser and a multitude of new vents. Air coolers for engine oil and the 6-Speed manual transmission will keep the high revving action well lubricated and power will applied to the wide rears by a 3.73 ratio, limited slip Torsen rear axle. Set to go on sales later this year as a 2016 model racers and enthusiasts around the country have already made bee lines for their nearest dealerships to get their names on the waiting list!

And finally, the biggest news of the show, if not the year as a whole….. This morning Ford announced the return of an American built, world class supercar; the Ford GT! 2016 will be the 50th anniversary of Ford GT race cars placing 1-2-3 at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans and to honor that momentous occasion will be no less than the most advanced Ford supercar ever; the Ford GT featuring the most powerful EcoBoost production engine ever – a new twin-turbocharged Ford EcoBoost V6 producing more than 600 horsepower! Dreamed up by a passionate group of dedicated Ford Performance believers and then built with the specific intention of hunting Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and McLarens the Ford GT sets the new standard for the term Supercar. Built around a carbon fibers driver cell with aluminum front and rear sub-frames that have been encapsulated in structural carbon fiber body panels the GT promises an incredible on track driving experience with world class performance. From the huge ceramic disc brakes at each corner to the tear drop shaped, fighter aircraft inspires fuselage with enhanced visibility curved windshield, every aspect of the Ford GT screams ‘Full Bore Adrenaline Fueled Track Domination”! As it was meant to….

Full details will be coming soon on all three new additions to the Ford Performance line up and you can see more pics of the gorgeous GT HERE, read more on the GT350R HERE and the Raptor HERE. As always Ford fans, stay tuned here for the latest breaking news!

Riverside Residents Get Cash for Going ‘Green’!

Residents of Riverside looking to go green can get cash assistance with the purchase of a new Ford Focus Electric from the city’s Alternative Fuel Vehicle Rebate Program! The City of Riverside is hoping to encourage residents to look into alternative fuel vehicles and increase awareness of the benefits associated with driving clean air cars. Using funds from a bill passed in 1990, California Assembly Bill 2766, which allows for a $6 from motor vehicle registration fees to be designated for air pollution efforts Riverside has created a rebate program to help stimulate clean air, electric powered vehicle sales. There are different levels of rebates available depending on the vehicle purchase, a Neighborhood EV, Electric Motorcycle or Electric Vehicle. The Ford Focus EV qualifies for a $500.00 rebate to help offset any down payment or trade in value used when purchasing.  To be eligible Focus EV owners must be able to provide a current CA drivers license and a current utility bill as verification of residence in the City of Riverside and the application must be completed within 30 days of purchase. The next generation of Built Ford Tough, the 2015 F-150

During the last quarter of 2013 a new Ford F-150 was sold about every 42 seconds and for the last 37 years running it has been the best-selling truck built so when it came time to redesign the line you can bet strongly that Ford was not going to mess with success! As many of Fords loyal truck buyers use their F-150’s to earn their living with the changes had to be more than just skin deep and… they had to ensure that the term ‘Built Ford Tough’ still means the best built truck available! With the rising cost of fuel on everyone’s mind and hitting their pockets as well the new truck needed to be more efficient yet also be more capable than ever before. One way to increase efficiency is to find a way to lighten up the truck and Ford did just that. By expanding their use of aluminum to the entire body, the hoods have been aluminum for many years now, the new F-150 is a whopping SEVEN HUNDRED pounds lighter than the current model. Working with aluminum powerhouse company, Alcoa, designers have been able to use a thicker, military grade, aluminum (than normal steel panels) that actually resists dents more than the steel it replaces! By removing almost half a ton of weight from the truck Ford was able to increase payload and tow capacities while also improving the mileage of the all-new 2015 F-150! Making sure its lives up to its heritage the “F-150 boasts more than 100 new Ford patents and/or patent applications, making this vehicle a benchmark for new technologies in Ford’s storied history of truck leadership.” Knowing that they would have a ton of skepticism to face about using a truck body made entirly from aluminum Ford used some pretty crafty trickery and built many ‘test mule’ trucks that looked like the current model but had aluminum bodies and did NOT tell the three companies that they supplied fleets of the real-world test trucks to, one of which was a mining company! The results were incredible as the aluminum bodied trucks held up to the most grueling environments and treatment and provided proof that the new bodies will indeed prove themsleves to be worthy of the F-150 badge. Read more details of this amazing story HERE. In addition to the incredibly popular 3.5L EcoBoost Tiwn-Turbo V6 and the ever faithful Coyote 5.0L V8 Ford is giving F-150 buyers a new choice of engine with a 2.7L EcoBoost that is said to give the power of a small V8 with the economic fuel economy of a mid-sized pick up! We get new details weekly about the next generation of America’s truck so check back here often and for some great coverage of the 2015 F-150 also check out our friends over at MotorReview.com, they are pretty awesome about having the latest info and rumors!

The Blue Oval in the Winners Circle at the Indy 500

In the early 1960’s the nation seemed to be obsessed with racing and performance cars, the hot rodders of the fifties had paved the way for a new generation of performance fans and the Ford Motor Company wanted a share of their attention hoping it would turn into a share of their business as well! At the end of the 1962 Indianapolis 500 the decision was made at Ford to develop an engine for the nations ‘Greatest Racing Spectacle’ and the engineers went to work in a big, and expensive way! Starting with the 260 cubic inch V8 that was being used in the Fairlane and the Falcon, a car that would provide the under pinnings for the soon to come Mustang, new heads were designed with four cams and a reversed intake exhaust set up that made for a spaghetti like mass of tubes up on the top of the engine. Results were astounding as the intial test engines developed 350 hp and with more work  the 1964 dual overhead cam engine produced a  maximum output of 425 HP at 8,000 rpm and weighing ONLY 395 lbs! Fords amazing little power house engine was combined with a new, European race car built by Lotus that had a mid-engined desing and was smaller and handled much better than the popular American four cylinder roadster racers of the day. American driver Dan Gurney, familiar with the advanced Formula One cars from the British firm Lotus, saw the potential in combining a lithe European chassis with newly developed and  powerful Ford engine. He connected Lotus’s Colin Chapman with Ford Motor Company and the result was a lightweight monocoque chassis fitted with the new Ford Quad Cam V-8 mounted behind the driver. Jim Clark, who was already well known and would become a racing legend, was Team Lotus’s top driver and piloted the new car to an amazing second place finish on its debut run at the 1963 Indy 500. By the 1965 season Ford was especially eager for a win and sought every advantage it could gain. To ensure every advantage possible in keeping Jim on the track they brought in the Wood Brothers to serve as pit crew. The Woods were legendary in NASCAR for their precision refueling drills, and they were no less impressive at Indianapolis where they filled Clark’s car with 50 gallons in less than 20 seconds. The race was hardly a contest at all as Clark led for 190 of the race’s 200 laps and took the checkered flag nearly two minutes ahead of his nearest rival. Jim Clark became the first driver to finish the Indianapolis 500 with an average speed above 150 mph (he averaged 150.686) and would go on to become one of motor sports greatest. The Ford Quad Cam would provide the power for the winning Indy cars the next two years and a total of 6 times before Henry Ford II pulled the company out of racing completely in 1970 however the engine continued to be developed by A.J. Foyt for many years and continued winning as well. From the first time Henry Ford himself took the wheel ole Number 999, racing has been a part of Ford Motor Company and the results have ensured that Ford cars have provided the thrill of performance driving to millions of owners. From the motor that powered the Ford Falcon to the winners Circle at Indy; the racing heritage of Ford can clearly be seen and felt in cars like the all-new 2015 Mustang and will be for sure in many more cars from the racers at the Blue Oval!

The Mustang 50 Year Special Edition Details

Ford Pays Homage to Five Decades of the World’s Favorite Pony Car with Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition

  • The 50 Year Limited Edition builds on the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang GT fastback and will be available in either Wimbledon White or Kona Blue
  • Special-edition Mustang comes standard with nearly every available option; the only choice customers have to make is color, and manual or automatic transmission
  • 2015 Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition will be available in fall 2014; only 1,964 examples will ever be built

Raceway Ford. Riverside, CA 92507 – Fifty years after debuting one of the world’s most popular cars, Ford is marking the milestone by revealing a Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition. Created to honor five decades of Mustang heritage, only 1,964 examples of the 50 Year Limited Edition will ever be built when it goes on sale this fall.

“When Mustang was approved for development more than 50 years ago, I don’t think anyone imagined it would spawn such a dedicated base of fans around the world and still be in production today,” said Gary Hertica, General Manager of Raceway Ford. Based on the all-new 2015 Mustang GT fastback with performance pack, the 50 Year Limited Edition is designed to provide customers with outstanding performance and a unique appearance that will be instantly recognizable on the road. The only options for the 50 Year Limited Edition are the choice of two exclusive colors and a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

50 years of inspiration

“The new Mustang blends a muscular, contemporary shape with design cues that define it as quintessentially Mustang,” added Gary. “The 50 Year Limited Edition adds details that set it apart from other Mustangs, while hearkening back to the 1965 original.” The only two available colors are Wimbledon White, like Mustang serial No. 0001 that was first sold to Capt. Stanley Tucker in April 1964, or Kona Blue. Both are exclusive to this limited-edition car. “Chrome trim was much more prevalent on cars in the 1960s than it is today, so we added some discreet highlights for the grille, side glass and tri-bar taillamps,” said Gary. “The darker Kona Blue provides a particularly striking contrast against the chrome.” Chrome bezels surrounding the base of each of the three taillamp blades take inspiration from the original 1962 design proposal by Gale Halderman that became the basis for the production model that debuted in 1964. The three individual lamps on each side of that design were combined into a single tri-bar lamp cluster for production, but the original concept has returned five decades on. The Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition will be the only 2015 model with the large faux gas cap badge on the rear fascia, with 50 Years added to the GT designation. Another visual element that won’t be found on any other Mustang is the louvered rear quarter-windows. Unlike the external louvers on the quarter-windows of the 1965 fastback, the new windows are comprised of layered sheets of glass built with a construction technique uniquely developed for this car.

Unique cockpit experience

From behind the wheel, drivers will know they are driving a very special car. The aluminum trim panel that spans the double-brow instrument panel gets an axel spin finish different from other 2015 Mustangs, plus a special serialized 50 Year Limited Edition badge on the passenger side. Each badge will be individually etched at Flat Rock Assembly Plant where Mustang is built. The limited-edition is the only 2015 Mustang with a cashmere-stitched, leather-wrapped steering wheel. The stitching is also used on the instrument panel, shifter boot, center armrest, door inserts and seats. The seats feature exclusive two-tone cashmere and black leather upholstery, and the Mustang 50 Year logo on the seat backs. Limited-edition cars will be equipped with loop-carpet floor mats with cashmere stitching and suede binding not available on other Mustangs.

A showpiece meant to be driven

Powered by the upgraded 5.0-liter V8 engine delivering more than 420 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque, every 50 Year Limited Edition will be equipped with the Mustang GT performance pack that includes massive six-piston Brembo front brakes and 19-inch alloy wheels with high-performance Y-speed-rated Pirelli P-Zero summer tires. The 19-inch alloy wheels feature a unique Y-spoke design inspired by the chromed steel wheels that were offered on the original Mustang 50 years ago. The front wheels are 9.0 inches wide with 255/40R tires, while the staggered rear wheels are 9.5 inches wide with 275/40R tires. The 50 Year Limited Edition is the only 2015 Mustang that will be available with a combination of an automatic transmission and the performance pack. When equipped with the six-speed automatic transmission, the Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition will get a limited-slip rear differential with a 3.55:1 final-drive. Customers who opt for the six-speed manual will get a Torsen differential with a 3.73:1 final-drive ratio. The 50 Year Limited Edition car will be among the first 2015 Mustangs built when production begins later this year. Each of the 1,964 50 Year Limited Edition Mustangs will get a unique owner’s guide in a leather portfolio with the 50 Year badge on the outside. “Ford wanted to provide our most dedicated fans with the emotion of the original Mustang in a 21st century car,” said Gary. “With this 50 Year Limited Edition, I believe they have accomplished that goal.”
