Production of the RHD model line is officially under way at Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan, continuing the car's first-ever global launch since the nameplate made its debut as a Lee Iacocca-championed 1964-1/2 model year spinoff of the Falcon compact.
This is the first year the Mustang has been offered to buyers in over 100 markets around the world - including those where [we - ed] have the temerity drive on the left side of the road.
The addition of RHD models allows exports to over 25 markets including the UK, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Cyprus, Malta and a smattering of Caribbean islands. Ford did RHD Explorer and Taurus models for some of these markets in the mid-90s but sales did not meet expectations and the RHD models were dropped. This time around, the Edge SUV is also being made with RHD."
Each year in the beginning of November, before the temps drop into the chilly 60’s in the desert of Nevada the automotive world sets its collective sights on Las Vegas and the annual SEMA convention. The Specialty Engineering and Marketing Association, SEMA, holds one of the largest shows hosted in Las Vegas each year to showcase all the many thousands of products for the automotive world and has become a showcase for the custom, high performance and unique vehicles that populate the hundreds and hundreds of display booths. Over one hundred thousand visitors attend the show each year hoping to be among the first to see new products, tomorrows technologies and of course the cars that showoff both! Many companies use hot rods, race cars or special built show cars to highlight their products but over the years it has become a race to see what companies have managed to get their hands on the newest vehicles first and get their products installed in time to debut at SEMA. This year the excitement has been brewing about the two new additions to the Ford line-up, the all-new 2015 Mustang and 2015 F-150. With all the attention the new Blue Oval’s have been getting online we knew the floor of the SEMA Show would be crowded with customized Pony’s and trucks so we sent our man Mike theCarGuy out to Vegas on a one day mad dash to see as many of the new Mustangs and F-150’s as he could! Only having one day to see many hundreds of amazing vehicles made if difficult for our resident car guy to stop and admire the really awesome ones but he was able to take some great pics of most of the coolest rides in the show. In the Ford booth there were over a dozen new 2015 models that had all been customized in different fashions. The 2015 Expedition was at the entrance and it has received attention from master craftsman Neil Tjin, who’s brother had built the vehicle right next to it that also had the #StanceIsEverything attitude a 2015 Fiesta ST. Two rows of new 2015 F-150’s flanked the walk way and each was done up in a unique way to show just a glimpse of the potential for the new platform of Built Ford Tough. Racing figures like Vaughn Gittin Jr and Brian Deegan had their teams create some incredible versions of F-150’s that seemed as though they could be driven straight out onto the track and take the checkered flags both in a drifting contest and a serious off road race! The onto Pony row with nearly 20 versions of the all-new 2015 Mustang from a GT Convertible given the full treatment from Chip Foose to a special edition Pony from the Petty Garage, with the legend himself Richard Petty there to debut it! Also revealed was the 2015 Mustang King Cobra, a GT Fastback with Ford Performance accessories bolted on with no major modifications that ran a 10:97 in the 1/4 mile to showcase how easy the new Pony can be modified for serious speed! One Mustang that got a ton of attention wasn’t new at all, in fact it was nearly 50 years old! The Hoonigan him elf, Ken Block brought his latest toy to the show… the Hoonicorn. A 1967 Mustang notch back with an 850hp injected V8 stuffed into it and putting all that power to each wheel, yes all wheel drive! Watch for the next episode of his famous Gymkhana video series for more of this incredible car. Out on the floor it seemed that the new Mustang was definitely THE car to have for most of the companies hoping to attract attention to their booths and show off their product. Our friends at Gibson Performance had the Mustang they took delivery of right here at Raceway Ford all done up up and looking seriously sinister at the show! It doesnt look anything like it did when Mr Gibson took it home a few weeks ago! The cars and action spill out to the entire parking lot in front of the Las Vegas Convention Center too! In addition to what has to be considered one of the largest gatherings of custom and race cars on the planet there were also drifting displays and ride-a-longs with the Ford Racing School drivers. There was so much to see and so many great cars to take pictures of that Mike is trying to get us to send him for TWO days next year, we will see but for now enjoy the pics he brought back! Until then remember, the 2015 Mustang was named the ‘Hottest Car at SEMA’ but if you stop by Raceway Ford you can take one home and have the ‘Hottest Car In Your Employee Parking Lot’ or any parking lot for that matter!

Recently the fine folks at Road and Track wrote a piece about why Ford should take the new 2015 Mustang to Le Mans and we could not agree MORE! To truly celebrate the Mustangs 50th Anniversary and its availability in Europe for the first time Ford Racing should build a Mustang race car to take back to the legendary race at Le Mans! Not since 1997 has the thunder of a Ford V8 been heard on the most famous course in Europe although the Blue Oval has MUCH history there. Long ago Mr Carroll Shelby and his Daytona Coupes tested at Riverside International Raceway just a mile from our present day location here at Raceway Ford. He took his powerful Ford racers over to France and started a run of victories for Ford in Europe’s race that continued throughout the entire 60’s! Auto enthusiasts all across the planet look forward to the world famous 24 Hours of Le Mans and there has never been a better time to go back than now, and never a better car to do it with than the all-new Mustang! Our man Mike theCarGuy even started an online petition to let Ford know how many fans want to hear the thunder of a Ford V8 once again in France! You can sign it HERE:

In the early 1960’s the nation seemed to be obsessed with racing and performance cars, the hot rodders of the fifties had paved the way for a new generation of performance fans and the Ford Motor Company wanted a share of their attention hoping it would turn into a share of their business as well! At the end of the 1962 Indianapolis 500 the decision was made at Ford to develop an engine for the nations ‘Greatest Racing Spectacle’ and the engineers went to work in a big, and expensive way! Starting with the 260 cubic inch V8 that was being used in the Fairlane and the Falcon, a car that would provide the under pinnings for the soon to come Mustang, new heads were designed with four cams and a reversed intake exhaust set up that made for a spaghetti like mass of tubes up on the top of the engine. Results were astounding as the intial test engines developed 350 hp and with more work the 1964 dual overhead cam engine produced a maximum output of 425 HP at 8,000 rpm and weighing ONLY 395 lbs! Fords amazing little power house engine was combined with a new, European race car built by Lotus that had a mid-engined desing and was smaller and handled much better than the popular American four cylinder roadster racers of the day. American driver Dan Gurney, familiar with the advanced Formula One cars from the British firm Lotus, saw the potential in combining a lithe European chassis with newly developed and powerful Ford engine. He connected Lotus’s Colin Chapman with Ford Motor Company and the result was a lightweight monocoque chassis fitted with the new Ford Quad Cam V-8 mounted behind the driver. Jim Clark, who was already well known and would become a racing legend, was Team Lotus’s top driver and piloted the new car to an amazing second place finish on its debut run at the 1963 Indy 500. By the 1965 season Ford was especially eager for a win and sought every advantage it could gain. To ensure every advantage possible in keeping Jim on the track they brought in the Wood Brothers to serve as pit crew. The Woods were legendary in NASCAR for their precision refueling drills, and they were no less impressive at Indianapolis where they filled Clark’s car with 50 gallons in less than 20 seconds. The race was hardly a contest at all as Clark led for 190 of the race’s 200 laps and took the checkered flag nearly two minutes ahead of his nearest rival. Jim Clark became the first driver to finish the Indianapolis 500 with an average speed above 150 mph (he averaged 150.686) and would go on to become one of motor sports greatest. The Ford Quad Cam would provide the power for the winning Indy cars the next two years and a total of 6 times before Henry Ford II pulled the company out of racing completely in 1970 however the engine continued to be developed by A.J. Foyt for many years and continued winning as well. From the first time Henry Ford himself took the wheel ole Number 999, racing has been a part of Ford Motor Company and the results have ensured that Ford cars have provided the thrill of performance driving to millions of owners. From the motor that powered the Ford Falcon to the winners Circle at Indy; the racing heritage of Ford can clearly be seen and felt in cars like the all-new 2015 Mustang and will be for sure in many more cars from the racers at the Blue Oval!

Ford Pays Homage to Five Decades of the World’s Favorite Pony Car with Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition
Raceway Ford. Riverside, CA 92507 – Fifty years after debuting one of the world’s most popular cars, Ford is marking the milestone by revealing a Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition. Created to honor five decades of Mustang heritage, only 1,964 examples of the 50 Year Limited Edition will ever be built when it goes on sale this fall.
“When Mustang was approved for development more than 50 years ago, I don’t think anyone imagined it would spawn such a dedicated base of fans around the world and still be in production today,” said Gary Hertica, General Manager of Raceway Ford. Based on the all-new 2015 Mustang GT fastback with performance pack, the 50 Year Limited Edition is designed to provide customers with outstanding performance and a unique appearance that will be instantly recognizable on the road. The only options for the 50 Year Limited Edition are the choice of two exclusive colors and a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
50 years of inspiration
“The new Mustang blends a muscular, contemporary shape with design cues that define it as quintessentially Mustang,” added Gary. “The 50 Year Limited Edition adds details that set it apart from other Mustangs, while hearkening back to the 1965 original.” The only two available colors are Wimbledon White, like Mustang serial No. 0001 that was first sold to Capt. Stanley Tucker in April 1964, or Kona Blue. Both are exclusive to this limited-edition car. “Chrome trim was much more prevalent on cars in the 1960s than it is today, so we added some discreet highlights for the grille, side glass and tri-bar taillamps,” said Gary. “The darker Kona Blue provides a particularly striking contrast against the chrome.” Chrome bezels surrounding the base of each of the three taillamp blades take inspiration from the original 1962 design proposal by Gale Halderman that became the basis for the production model that debuted in 1964. The three individual lamps on each side of that design were combined into a single tri-bar lamp cluster for production, but the original concept has returned five decades on. The Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition will be the only 2015 model with the large faux gas cap badge on the rear fascia, with 50 Years added to the GT designation. Another visual element that won’t be found on any other Mustang is the louvered rear quarter-windows. Unlike the external louvers on the quarter-windows of the 1965 fastback, the new windows are comprised of layered sheets of glass built with a construction technique uniquely developed for this car.
Unique cockpit experience
From behind the wheel, drivers will know they are driving a very special car. The aluminum trim panel that spans the double-brow instrument panel gets an axel spin finish different from other 2015 Mustangs, plus a special serialized 50 Year Limited Edition badge on the passenger side. Each badge will be individually etched at Flat Rock Assembly Plant where Mustang is built. The limited-edition is the only 2015 Mustang with a cashmere-stitched, leather-wrapped steering wheel. The stitching is also used on the instrument panel, shifter boot, center armrest, door inserts and seats. The seats feature exclusive two-tone cashmere and black leather upholstery, and the Mustang 50 Year logo on the seat backs. Limited-edition cars will be equipped with loop-carpet floor mats with cashmere stitching and suede binding not available on other Mustangs.
A showpiece meant to be driven
Powered by the upgraded 5.0-liter V8 engine delivering more than 420 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque, every 50 Year Limited Edition will be equipped with the Mustang GT performance pack that includes massive six-piston Brembo front brakes and 19-inch alloy wheels with high-performance Y-speed-rated Pirelli P-Zero summer tires. The 19-inch alloy wheels feature a unique Y-spoke design inspired by the chromed steel wheels that were offered on the original Mustang 50 years ago. The front wheels are 9.0 inches wide with 255/40R tires, while the staggered rear wheels are 9.5 inches wide with 275/40R tires. The 50 Year Limited Edition is the only 2015 Mustang that will be available with a combination of an automatic transmission and the performance pack. When equipped with the six-speed automatic transmission, the Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition will get a limited-slip rear differential with a 3.55:1 final-drive. Customers who opt for the six-speed manual will get a Torsen differential with a 3.73:1 final-drive ratio. The 50 Year Limited Edition car will be among the first 2015 Mustangs built when production begins later this year. Each of the 1,964 50 Year Limited Edition Mustangs will get a unique owner’s guide in a leather portfolio with the 50 Year badge on the outside. “Ford wanted to provide our most dedicated fans with the emotion of the original Mustang in a 21st century car,” said Gary. “With this 50 Year Limited Edition, I believe they have accomplished that goal.”

For the last year and a half or so Mustang fans have been chomping at the bit waiting for the arrival of the next generation of America’s favorite Pony, the 2015 Ford Mustang! To commemorate the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Mustang, Ford held a huge premier event here on the west coast at the world famous TLC Chinese Theater and our own Mike theCarGuy was lucky enough to get an invite and be there! There were hundreds of celebrities and members of the world auto press, and just like the famous star it is the new Mustang even left its ‘foot print’ in the wet cement out in front of the theater to be displayed next to stars like Steve McQueen! After starring in over 3,000 movies and TV shows the new Mustang had a LOT to live up to and it does NOT disappoint! From the outside its obvious that the new Mustang is breath taking and the performance is too! As huge Mustang fans ourselves we have been checking out each of the drawings, renderings and concepts that popped up online and we found many features we liked about many of them and the magicians at Ford seem to have read our minds and pulled together the things we that he liked about many different versions of the new Pony into one simply stunning package. The new GT is powered by a freshened up Coyote 5.0l V8 that develops 420hp and will also be available with the Launch Control (Line Lock) feature previously only available on the Shelby Cobra’s! At the other end of the spectrum is an all new 4 cyl, DOHC Turbo Charged EcoBoost engine that makes 305hp while also returning class leading exceptional fuel mileage! Out back the rear suspension is all new and fully independent, which means the new Pony will change the way you feel about the letters IRS forever! Quite simply the only thing the designers kept from the current platform is the way they spell Mustang! The 2015 wasn’t just re-styled, it was engineered with an intent to stir the soul, provide an intense yet incredibly satisfying driving experience and be the center of attention wherever it goes for a long, long time! The first 1,964 of this gorgeous new Mustang will be limited edition Mustang 50 Year Anniversary models to coincide with the 50 years since the delivery of the first Mustangs and there is already much anticipation, contact us at Raceway Ford for more information on how to get your name on the waiting list and stay tuned here for more info on this amazing new addition to Ford’s history of amazing cars!
